St. Brendan's took a huge step towards capturing the divisional senior football championship with a significant 17 point win over old rivals Wolfe Tones last Sunday. This was a crucial game for both teams, particularly for the Tones the current NAB champions. Having lost the first of the five-game series and the second game ending in a tie this loss in game three puts the Tones in a must win situation for next Sunday's fourth game.

As the final margin illustrates this was a one-sided football game that never caught fire. While Wolfe Tones never came close to attaining their performance of the drawn game, St. Brendan's gave an all round flawless display. From the beginning they were completely focused on the task at hand. They played fast, open and direct football and one had the impression that they could lift the tempo should the need arise. Such was their early command of the game they had six points on the board before Wolfe Tones registered their point in the 12th minute.  

After the teams exchanged points for a short period in the second quarter, the game ended as a contest when David Reid scored St. Brendan's first goal in the 23rd minute. The Brendan's added two more points to give them a 1-11 to 0-3 interval lead. The highlight of an otherwise non-eventful 2nd half was St. Brendan's second goal which was brilliantly executed before being booted to the net by Brendan Hickey at the end of the third quarter.
